ADVENTURE, APRès & alpine vibes

Spring in Mammoth is a season of contrasts—the perfect blend of snowy slopes and sun-soaked adventures. Crisp mornings give way to warm afternoons, and the mountain offers endless ways to play beyond skiing and snowboarding.

Whether carving spring turns, soaking up après on a sunny deck, or exploring the stunning Eastern Sierra, Mammoth in spring has something for everyone.

SKIING & RIDING

Let’s start with the obvious—Mammoth’s season runs deep into spring. Thanks to our legendary snowpack, we’re still spinning lifts long after most mountains have called it quits. That means soft, slushy turns, uncrowded slopes, and some of the most fun conditions of the year. Plus, when you’re ready for a break, you’ll find no shortage of decks, patios, and slopeside spots to kick back and enjoy the sunshine.

Mammoth is known for its long seasons, but just how long do we stay open? Here’s a look at our closing dates and snowfall totals over the past 10 years:

WHAT IS SECOND SEASON?

While most resorts start winding down in spring, Mammoth is just getting started. We call it Second Season because it’s like hitting the reset button—longer days, playful snow, and a full lineup of events, après, and unbeatable deals to make the most of the season.

Spring skiing comes with big perks—think ticket packs you can share with friends, special lodging offers, and even the chance to ride now when you buy next season’s Ikon Pass. From discounted lessons and rentals to retail deals, there’s no shortage of ways to save while you send it.

And with signature spring events like the legendary Pond Skim and Mammoth Yacht Club, you’ll want to stick around long after your last run.

APRèS, EVENTS & THAT SPRINGTIME ENERGY

But the fun doesn’t stop on the slopes. Spring in Mammoth isn’t just about what happens on the mountain—it’s also about what happens after. As the days get longer, the après scene gets even better. Live music, patio parties, and deckside drinks make every afternoon a celebration.

And if you’re looking for something extra, spring events bring a whole new level of energy to town. From live music and après blowouts to the kind of spring events you have to see to believe, there’s always something happening.

BEYOND THE SLOPES: SPRING ADVENTURES

Not a skier? No problem. Mammoth’s spring playground extends beyond the lifts. Here are some activities to consider:

  • Woolly’s Adventure Summit: Perfect for families and thrill-seekers alike, Woolly’s offers high-speed tubing lanes, a snow play area, and a cozy lodge to warm up between laps. It’s a must-visit for nonstop fun off the slopes.

  • Snowshoeing: With longer daylight hours, snowshoeing becomes a delightful afternoon or evening activity. Trails around Minaret Vista and the Mammoth Lakes Basin offer serene environments to explore.

  • Mountain Biking: As the snow melts, trails like Lower Rock Creek open up for early-season rides, offering flowy descents and stunning Sierra views. Prefer a more relaxed cruise? Take advantage of Mammoth’s paved town paths, perfect for a scenic ride with family-friendly access to lakes, parks, and village stops.

  • Fishing: Spring is prime time for fishing in the Eastern Sierra with the season opener always landing on the last Saturday in April. Streams and rivers such as Hot Creek and the Upper Owens River are open for catch-and-release fishing, providing anglers with excellent opportunities.

  • Exploring Hot Creek: Visit the geothermal wonders of Hot Creek Geological Site, where you can witness bubbling hot springs amidst stunning mountain scenery—a perfect spot for a leisurely stroll and nature viewing.
