This is Unbound
Pink Rails, Big Vibes
For over 25 years, the Unbound Terrain Park crew has been at the forefront of pushing the limits of creativity and fun. If you’ve ridden Mammoth Mountain, then you’ve probably seen these gorgeous parks scattered around the mountain. You know the ones with the pink rails, pristine jumps, and crazy looking snow features. Have you ever wondered, just how good are those parks? Well both Powder Magazine and Snowbrains have come out with new terrain park polls and once again, the Unbound Terrain Parks have come out on top. But what makes them so special? Well, there's a few things Unbound does differently, leading the terrain park industry as a whole:
Not just a catch phrase, but an ethos the entire department believes in. With a ton of resources put into our entry-level Playgrounds, progression starts from an incredibly approachable level. Disco and Eagle Playgrounds are the perfect place to start, with Wonderland Playground a small step up and a dreamlike beginner park rider’s paradise.
After the Playgrounds the next step on the ladder of progression is Forest Trail. Offering a wide range of creative jib features, an incredible jump line, a mini-pipe, and slew of transition features, Forest Trail defines what an intermediate terrain park can be. Highlights include the famous 3-pack, sea of jibs, and Jill’s Pipe, an 11-foot masterpiece which puts a big ol bow on an incredible run.
3. Creativity
Ok so we’ve used this term a few times so far, but seriously, our terrain park builders come up with designs that are hard to put into words. These are not the parks you may have seen back in the 90s and early 2000s. Transitions can be found all over the place giving you infinite ways to flow your way down the park. The Snake Run is a unique park that combines a cross course with poppy freestyle jumps and is seriously fun. Jibs & More is a, you guessed it, jib focused park that also has some cool jumps and unique transition features. And this same creative feel can be found in our entry-level parks, again showcasing Unbound’s commitment to everyone.
4. Location, Location, Location
Main Park is front and center above Main Lodge, and along with Forest Trail is an easy lap on Chair 6. But what if it's windy? Or early in the AM and the light is flat? South Park and Wonderland are both situated lower on the mountain and face towards the east, making them much more welcoming during inclement weather or early in the AM. Is it dumping snow and you want to slide some steel? Go to the protected Jibs & More. Here in the spring? Main Park and Forest Trail are always on point.
5. Spring
We just alluded to that magical time of year, that time when the snow only gets better throughout the day, the landings are soft like butter, and your crew can session the parks with the best pros in the business. The Unbound is the place for pros to dial in their tricks, learn something new, or to finish up a long year ripping with their friends. It’s also the perfect time to dial in your park riding techniques with softer snow. All that creates a vibe in the parks which is palpable.
It’s hard to build a good jump, but we have the best cat drivers on earth, and riding a smooth jump makes you feel like a better skier/snowboarder.
7. Our Halfpipes
With a 22-footer, 11-footer, and sea of quarter pipes around the parks, our commitment to transition is second to none.
8. It’s Simply More Fun
The way we see it, riding terrain parks is more fun than simply cruising down a boring trail. Give it a try, we bet you’ll agree.
9. Resource Commitment
Starting from the top, Mammoth Mountain is committed to terrain parks. What does that look like? 12 of the best cat operators on earth and 15 incredibly talented day crew members.
10. Events, etc.
From our free after-hours Party in the Parks (2 this year!), to amateur contest series, to hosting Red Bull training camps and some of the biggest photo shoots on earth, Unbound’s ethos transcends to the event landscape as well.
